Summer Slam 2018 Week 3 - August 3

The grand final day at Summer Slam 2018 was a blast! We are happy to see that the children enjoyed themselves through the entire programme. Thank you, parents, for your support.

Pizza- the number 1 item on our party menu. Children were thrilled to see how the dry yeast comes alive when mixed with water and sugar. Once we had the yeast mixture nice and frothy, we got down to form the dough. Now that was fun!
While we left the dough to rise, the slammers helped in getting the toppings for the pizza ready. With everything ready, it was time to roll out the pizzas, put the toppings and off they went into the oven.

Gymnastics- the final session with Coach Annie. The slammers were seen walking on the balance beam, performing the rabbit jumps, donkey kicks, forward rolls, and cartwheels on the boards. That was so impressive!
Coach Annie has slipped in a little surprise for the ‘gymnasts’ in their tie‘n dye draw stringbag.

Now it was time to relish some freshly squeezed orange juice from the juice bar!

Children put the strings on their beautiful ceramic pieces. Thank you to our volunteer mum Tania Misra, who did the fascinating pottery session with our slammers.
Party Time!
The children had a splendid time playing in the inflatable pools, the water slide, sprinklers and blowing bubbles! We hope you enjoy the pictures and videos of our fun day!
We shall meet again on 16 August 2018 when the new school year resumes. Have a great weekend!

Summer Slam 2018 Week 3 - August 2

Day 4 - The first order of business of the day was, icing the cake. Children helped in making the simple yet tasty butter icing and tried their hand at icing the cake.

Today is Aunty May's birthday! The slammers surprised Aunty May with a sweet birthday treat. They made a special card for her. The maracas, guitar and rattle drum came in handy to sing the birthday song as Geethan and uncle Dennis led the percussion band.

We made a ‘rattle drum’. Our little slammers were seen playing with their drums gladly. Our take-home art and craft is all set to go home.
We were informed by Aunty Tania that our pottery craft pieces will be removed from the kiln by this evening and we will get to see them tomorrow. Yeah!

Singapore Sixes- A fun match between Team Sathish and Team Dennis ended in a tie. Our little cheering squad kept the players on the move.

Today was our final dancercise session with Uncle Suhairi. Children enjoyed themselves as they danced to 'shy guy' and 'Everybody dance now'.

Snack time
We formed the phases of the moon, (full moon, half moon, crescent & new moon)  with Oreos and had that as a special snack.

Tomorrow is the grand final day of Summer Slam 2018. As promised to the children, we will have a pool party in the afternoon after lunch. Please remember to pack a light lunch for your child so they would be able to enjoy the party food in the afternoon.

We also request for the following items to be sent in your child’s bag with his/her name marked clearly. A swimsuit
Towel
Change of clothes
Sunblock

The party menu:

Summer Slam 2018 Week 3 - August 1

Hello Mums and Dads,
The day at Summer Slam was just as pleasant as the weather today!
An essential instrument in percussion, the Maracas is what we made today in the series of making musical instruments.  We also worked on the 3 D-art with foam beads.

It was pottery time with ‘Aunty Tania’ as affectionately addressed by the children. The work on the pottery project gathers momentum as we hit mid-point. The molds were taking for firing to the kiln today.

Bake a cake. The cookery project was a classic butter cake. Would you agree that when it comes to having a cake and then eating it, this timeless treat is unbeatable!

Gymnastics- The good effort put in by the children saw Coach Annie develop the cartwheel today.

Cricket- After some warm-up exercises, Uncle Sathish along with Uncle Dennis showed the children how to bat and bowl. Tomorrow we will be having the 'Singapore Sixes'!

The juice bar took a break and we enjoyed watermelon wedges for the snack.

Summer Slam 2018 Week 3 - July 31

Day 2 began with a science experiment. Can a paper towel stay dry in water!
Pressure- so how do we balance this between air and water to make sure that they both behave. The explanation was made using a piece of paper, a tumbler and some water and of course some air. the older children understood the principle involved here and it was so endearing to find out that the younger children thought we came up with magic!

We are very thankful to Mrs. Tania Rajan, who came in and did a hands-on pottery project with the children. This will continue through the week and you may look forward to the finished product coming home on Friday.

Craft time was 3 D Art - using foam beads in designs chosen by the children. We hope that the artwork will find a place of pride in your homes.

Happy Birthday to our assistant Coach Geethan! Certainly, a party that everybody enjoyed with party food followed by tumbles and rumbles in the Zorb.

Dancercise today was to the unmistakable club-something number, 'Everybody dance now' by C+C Music Factory.
With all this going on the Cricket drills were also continued and it was about hitting the ball with a piece of wood, also known as batting. The juice bar was at its productive best offering freshly squeezed orange juice that was an invigorating drink for the thirsty cricketers.

Summer Slam 2018 Week 3 - July 30

Hello Parents,
Yeah! we are into the grand final stretch of Summer Slam 2018. A warm welcome to the new slammers who joined us this week!
A 'tie 'n dye' project was the first order of business of the day. Tie 'n dye drawstring bags would be one of our take-home projects for the week! Now isn't that a spoiler alert!

We presented how designs could vary based on 'tying' them at different sections on the cloth. But first, the bags had to be pre-soaked in the salt solution to ensure that the colours behave themselves.

Representatives from the makers of the popular probiotic drink 'Yakult' made their presentation this morning. The key point in the presentation was about the necessity of probiotics in our digestive system. Our slammers went home with a Yakult drink to enjoy.

In our unit on making musical instruments, we have begun to assemble a guitar. Children are learning about how a stringed instrument works, in this process.

Gymnastics- Today our coaches showed us what is called the ‘general gymnastic circuit’. The various kicks and cartwheels (baby cartwheel & sideways cartwheel) were done during the session.

Sports- Cricket, Glorious Cricket! and who better to present it than Uncle Sathish, who claims that he very closely missed being part of team India! He began by explaining the game and its rules. He also ran some catching and throwing drills.

Summer Slam 2018 Week 2 - July 27

We had a great time and did some good for the environment too.  Mrs Alegria, assisted by Austin, spoke to the children about why we were going to the beach for the clean-up exercise.  Our thanks, too, to the mums and dads who came along. The excursion was topped off with some chocolate ice cream which was just right for the moment.

Movie time (it was Lilo and Stitch today) with strawberry jelly and ice-cream!  Now doesn't that beat pop-corns!
Our Senior Slammers - Kritika, Jun Ying, Bodhi, Ananya Iyer and Advik are pleased to present their e-books (created on Book Creator).  Parents of these children have received the link to their children's books by WhatsApp.  We are looking forward to continuing with creating our books next week with those who will return for Week 3 of Summer Slam 2018.

We went 'Live' today.  Thank you very much for your nice comments.  It was nice to know that you were watching the action!

The children were pleased to bring home their art and craft projects done through the week. Next week is the third and final week of Summer Slam 2018.  We welcome those who wish to join us to register through the following link: https://form.jotform.me/MFCKINDERGARTEN/summer-slam-2018---registration-for

The highlight of next week will be 'pottery', very kindly hosted by Tania Rajan, mother of Aria. Have a safe and pleasant weekend!

Summer Slam 2018 Week 2 - July 26

Day 4 began with a cookery project. We made the children’s all-time favourite - jelly and left it to set in the refrigerator. Strawberry jelly with ice creme is on the menu for dessert tomorrow.

For our art time, we explored an interesting African art project for children. It is called African Akuaba doll Scratch art. The project is done in three phases.
Phase 1- children coloured the sheet of paper in many colours.
Phase 2- they then spread a layer of black paint on the coloured sheet and left it to dry.
Phase 3-  they used a toothpick to draw the face of the doll.

We did another interesting structure modelling craft project in the afternoon. Children were shown an easy method to make 'paper pyramids'.  It was nice to see the older children helping their younger friends with the craft. They have also managed to paint their project and have left it to dry.

We came up with a fun game called the straw maze. All we needed was a paper case, straws, double sided tape and a bead to form the game. Children stuck the pieces of straw at different angles on the paper case. All one has to do is to tilt the box to get the bead from the starting point to the finish. For snack time we had crackers and cheese see the picture to see our version!

Dancercise to 'She drives me crazy' (FYC) with Uncle Suhairi was a perfect warm-up for the Rugby.  Now do take the title as gender-unspecific!

Rugby match between Team Reyansh & Team Kaira. A cup of freshly squeezed orange juice was the perfect drink after a thrilling match.

We are all excited about the trip to the beach. Please have your child dress in comfortable clothes and sandals. Please remember to send along a hat and apply sunscreen and an insect repellant on your child. We will be back in school in time for lunch and dismissals for our half day session children.
